La piscine - Photographie de piscineux en pleine révision pour leur examen final.

The piscine

La Piscine is a month-long trial that invites you to dive into the world of code, to discover the 42 pedagogy and to potentially change your whole life. Give it a try!

What to expect ?

The piscine in a nutshell

Every day for four weeks, and even on weekends, you’ll have coding exercises or projects to do, hand in and evaluate, while getting to know the other candidates. The Piscine program starts from scratch and requires no prior knowledge… apart from using a mouse and keyboard (44% of our candidates surveyed had never coded before). The piscine is actually a chance: one month spent on the premises of 42 Nice to really understand the school, its unique learning method and of course what programming really is.

Modules

One concept at a time

The modules represent the 16 individual projects that you will be completing during your piscine. Each module addresses a specific notion through practical case studies, and takes about a day to complete and validate – but you can take your time and even do them over and over again as many times as you like.

Evaluations

Enriching interactions

Each module is then subject to two types of correction: an automated correction and two corrections carried out by candidates in the piscine, also known as peer-evaluations. This type of correction reinforces the peer-to-peer approach by discovering other ways of programming and exchanging ideas on the subject with other participants in the piscine. Whether you’re at the same level or not, this correction stage is as beneficial for the corrector as it is for the corrector.

Rushes

Teamwork

The 3 group projects are called rushes. But what exactly are rushes? These projects, which are carried out over the weekend in groups of 3/4, allow you to challenge yourself by confronting a given problem and finding a unique solution. Groups are randomly generated. Unlike the modules, the rushes are corrected by the 42 Nice pedagogical team, aka the Bocal, or by advanced students taking part in pedagogical activities. These corrections, also known as “defenses“, will give you valuable advice and precise feedback on your coding.

Exams

Test yourself, outdo yourself!

Each Friday is marked by a 4-hour exam – 8 hours for the final one. The exams consist of solving exercises of increasing difficulty in a limited time. No assistance is allowed: you’ll be on your own to solve the problems presented. Above all, it’s an opportunity to put into practice what you’ve learned during the week, to see what you’re struggling with and what you need to review during the following week, and sometimes to find solutions to problems that were previously impossible to solve.

Results

How will you know if you’ve passed the piscine?

Results for 42 Nice are announced within two weeks of the end of each piscine. The official announcement is made on social networks and an e-mail is sent to all participants to announce their results. There is no numerus clausus: we select the candidates who have demonstrated their ability to permanently join 42 Nice.
